Really dude! Give them boys props for making it to the frank ski bowl! You can only make it if your team has been dominante for yrs. Way to rep the GFL Ridge. They just had some big plays on you. You played hard. Riddle this T-bone STOP HATEN ON KIDS!!! 2B SPORTS IS NOT FOR BASHING AND HATEN.IT'S FOR KIDS AND COACHES TO TALK ABOUT FOOTBALL!

tbone77,
Here is why I would not suggest GFL teams to play in these tournaments:
1st, the birthday cut off dates are different. We use Sept 1st. These other groups use 5/1, 7/1, or 8/1. Therefore we the GFL are playing against older kids
2nd, when you say original roster, the GFL teams are normally split, however the teams in other leauges have D1 vs D2 rosters, or stacked rosters to begin with.
Lastly, the rules are totally different in the GFL vs. these other leagues and it is not wise to play in post season tourn. |

Tbone your kidding yourself if you think the best football is in MAYFL or any other league other than GFL as a WHOLE. First of all Im born and raise southside of Atlanta. C.P. to be exact. As a whole GFL is hands down the best competive league around. With very FUNDAMENTALLY sound football players. thats why for the last 2 years there have been a Gwinnett county school representing 5A chapionship in the dome. Not discrediting any of the inner city kids or programs. There are some very talented indiviuals and vey good teams that have been assembled with kids from ALL of metro Atlanta. Thats the difference. I myself took in some bowl games this weekend, and i saw exactly what Im talking about. Very good indiviuals, not so very good teams. Some better than others. Of course the ones that have been stacked were pretty good. GFL teams should probably not play any more tournaments in metro Atlanta. They play with there original team. The last 3-4 years they play they match them up with The defending champ from previous year in the very first game, i noticed. RESPECT. Im just saying..................................... [tbone77 2011-12-05 03:45:15]:
The truth is that the "daddy ball" GFL has no business trying to compete with real football leagues, period. That FBU team would have gotten their butt kicked too if they faced an allstar Central Dekalb team. I love these tournaments because they are proving slowly but surely that the GFL is a pretender. I bet you won't see a GFL team go back to the Frank Ski bowl for a long time now.

This is actually why you do play in these tournaments to measure your team and also give the kids a taste of different play styles. It's a good learning experience for coaches and players.

I coached the 9U team that won the B2C tournament that Peachtree City 9U played in. I agree with somebody here, 90% of the time you teams can not compete with the elite teams from other leagues, and it has nothing to do with age. We use a August 1 cutoff date and in B2C we beat two teams that play grade based with a May 1 cutoff. But, it is about talent. I dont have a stacked team, but it is a group that has been together since we were 6. Probably added 5-6 players over the years but the size and talent compared to Lewis's OR team was worlds apart. Seriously, West Forsyth could have beat them by 40 if Heath was that type of coach. But, let Lewis keep some more players and build a better team he could have at least competed with West Forsyth.
And it is silly to compare high school results with little league. I coach little league in Dekalb county and I got 4 kids that played for me that started for Shiloh in Gwinnett. Also, because of the structure(home fields) Gwinnett Schools will always go further than schools in Dekalb or the City. Dekalb schools have to play at stadiums owned by the county. The county keeps all the money from the gate at these games. Then at the end of the year the county shares those funds with all schools. So, schools like Stephenson, Tucker and MLK end up getting virtually the same money as schools like Druid Hills, Lakeside, and Towers. So even though Stephenson may draw 10,000 people to every game, they cant afford to bring on the quality of coaching staffs they can in Gwinnett because they dont get to keep the share of the money and funnel back into the program. So Gwinnett schools will almost always have a better quality coaching staff at the high school level. |
