Well … the end of the regular season has come and gone. Listed below are the FINAL regular season top 10 rankings for the 7U GFL teams. This is a heartless (but unbiased), computer-generated assessment of each team’s performance relative to their schedule strength that ranks each team at this moment ... not necessarily where they are seeded according to GFL rules. This poll utilizes the score of each game (the margin of victory) instead of a simple win-loss. Ranking scores are calculated based on margin of victory, opponent’s avg. margin of victory and opponent’s strength of schedule. Take the example of a “strong” team playing a “weaker” team. If the strong team blows-out the weak team, the strong team is scored high … especially if the weak team has lost all of their games by close scores. On the other hand, if the weak team has lost all of their games by a wide margin but manages to keep the score close against the strong team, the strong team is scored lower. In this scenario, a close loss to a strong team can receive more points than a victory over a weak team. The bottom-line is that a team is rewarded for beating (or playing well against) stronger teams. Scores are totaled each week (for the season) and rankings are assigned based on those scores. This poll does NOT take into account win-loss records, so you will sometimes see teams with a loss or two ranked higher than undefeated teams. Once we reach the playoffs the rankings are weighted to reflect win-loss (to ensure that a team that moves on in the playoffs is ranked higher than teams that don’t), but I don’t do that during the regular season. Also, the poll does NOT take into account last season’s record … or even THIS season’s record for that matter. Who you played and how badly you beat (or got beaten by) them is all that’s taken into account. This poll is for entertainment and is not intended to be "the answer" ... no poll is perfect. Weekly “Top 10” includes overall rankings … plus/minus indicates movement within the top ten, while the number in the [] indicates strength of schedule to date.
